Get Ready, the King is Coming!
No, not Elvis, sadly. Although I’m sure he’ll feature on the Boxing Day TV schedule between re-runs of Bake-Off and a Carry On quadruple bill.
Instead, (and no less thrilling) here’s the text of a sermon I preached last week on the theme of Get Ready, the King is Coming! It was for Christ the King, but you could adapt it for Advent 2 if you want. Enjoy!

Confession and Absolution
John the baptiser appeared in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
For the sins we have wilfully committed, Lord forgive us.
Forgive us good Lord.
For when we have stumbled in weakness, Lord forgive us.
Forgive us good Lord.
For the good we have omitted through thoughtlessness or neglect, Lord forgive us.
Forgive us good Lord.
May the one who baptises with the Holy Spirit
wash away all our sins,
renew us in his image,
and strengthen us to follow him.
Amen.
Blessing and Dismissal
May faithfulness spring up from the ground,
and righteousness rain down from the sky.
May God speak peace to us.
May his glory dwell among us.
May his steadfast love and faithfulness surround us.
and the blessing …
Amen.
Go out from here to prepare a highway for our God,
lift up your voice with strength
and proclaim, “Here is your God!”
We will go. We will prepare. We will proclaim.
