Changing Times – Look, See, Pray

It’s that time of year… Changes are afoot. Our beach is now the playground for the locals instead of holiday visitors; one day the sea is blue as the Pacific, the next sees the white horses gallop across the bay. Last week it was T-shirt weather, now a wise person takes a coat. The dogs, well they don’t care- they just want to play!

After the drought the rain has found its way to Sussex: the lawns have suddenly gone green even as the trees begin to change into their autumn finery.

The track of the Sun is inexorably moving further south: that means the seaside sunsets will get better because the Sun will set over the water and the reflections will double the colour palette. Downside? It gets rather nippy with the wind blowing across from the Atlantic storm fronts. Soon the clocks will change and the darker evenings will rush us towards Christmas. Our supermarkets are ALREADY selling mince pies!!! Have they no decency?

Change happens to us, whether we like it or not. Have you ever wished for the ability to stop all changes except the ones we like? Folly, but we can’t help wishing!

God is still with us, faithful, merciful, compassionate and holy. One of the comforting parts of the Bible is found on Ecclesiastes 3. As you read, remember that God-who-is-with-us remains firmly in place as Sovereign: and the whole of Creation exists as part of His Eternal Purpose.

A Time for Everything

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens.

A time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
