Walnut Tree- Look, See, Pray

Black Walnut Tree at Antony House (Nat. Trust)

350 years old- and still strong.

Trees like this prove that great things usually take time to develop. I can grow chickweed (which even the slugs won’t eat) in days, without effort- until I have to remove it forcefully from the premises. Those who plant trees do so for the benefit of the next several generations.

I wonder what will be left behind as my legacy? The stuff I’ve done and the people I have known- have I shaped them for the future? Is so, positively or negatively?

The words of St Paul in 1 Corinthians 11:1 have always amazed me as an example of wisdom, courage, faith and integrity. “And you should imitate me, just as I imitate Christ.”

May God give me strength and courage to be a good imitator of Jesus… then the legacy will look after itself.
