Psalm 139, Psalm 1

One of the classic, all-time favourite psalms today: Psalm 139.

With such lovely words, there is very little for me to add, so I haven’t added it. Enjoy this poignant confession and a choice of blessings.

Confession and Absolution

O Lord, you have searched me and you know me.

You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar.
O Lord, you have searched me and you know me.
Have mercy, I pray.

You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.
O Lord, you have searched me and you know me.
Have mercy, I pray.

Even before a word is on my tongue, O LORD, you know it completely.
O Lord, you have searched me and you know me.
Have mercy, I pray.

May the God of all grace pardon and forgive us,
strengthen and renew us,
revive and restore us in his image
that we might declare his praise.
Amen.

Blessing and Dismissal

May your delight be in the LORD;
may you meditate on his word day and night.
May you be as trees planted by streams of water,
yielding fruit in season,
and may all that you do, prosper.

or

May you be blessed in your going out and your coming in.
May you be blessed when you sit and when you rise.
May you be blessed behind and before,
and may God’s hand rest upon you.

And may the blessing of our God:
Father, Son, Spirit,
be upon us and remain with us
this day and always.
Amen.

Go in God’s strength
to live and work to his glory.
Amen.
