Meet one-fifth of a noise-making machine that regularly assaults the eardrums of the local population. When the Police/Fire/Ambulance pass with “blues n’two” blaring, day or night, THESE FIVE DONKEYS JOIN IN.
It’s a row fit to wake the dead- and the donkeys carry on after the emergency vehicles have passed out of sight. This is not helpful. Honest, as a local (deafened) resident, I can assure you that we DON’T need the extra decibels. But we don’t get to choose, only listen.
I’m not sure if the donkeys bray because the fire engines scare them; or if the donkeys think it’s a competition.
Perhaps it is a misguided sense of public citizenship. The humans are alarmed- let’s make sure everyone hears the warning! During daylight hours, the donkey “choir” is amusing. A local oddity which makes us smile. But at midnight when one’s weary head has kissed the soft pillows, and sweet dreams are soothing the soul- a field full of donkey opera is not helpful at all. Singing donks are NOT helpful.
I know some people like this. “Don’t panic” cries Corporal Jones- panicking and causing chaos. Some who gleefully add their volume to the criticism or shared ignorance of a crowd (or an upset church).
If your only contribution to a debate or a crisis is noise, you’re not helping.
Is your contribution Constructive or Destructive? Like fire, the tongue can be used for good- praising God, teaching, and encouraging others- but uncontrolled speech can spread lies, gossip, and harm (Proverbs 18:21; James 3:9-10).
Let’s choose wisely when we speak or bray- otherwise we’re not helping.
