Intense summer heat is draining my energy.
Too many people are acting like spoilt children.
The industry of media communication is wrecking common sense.
Do I sound miserable to you? Honestly, I’m not (although I will be happier when the temperature reduces to more normal levels). People have always been capable of mayhem as well as kindness; and the media is and always has been biased. Let’s face it, the Daily Mail, Express and Mirror have always been editorially “guided” by rich owners. It isn’t necessary to read beyond the headlines: we already know what they will say.
So, three genuine concerns with one thing in common: I am nearly powerless to influence any of them. Too many troubles? But with God, there is still hope.
Therefore I shall do as the Psalmist did: let God be God, and focus on the more profound concerns. Humility is rare gift, but a precious one. It takes effect when I do as the writer of Psalm 131 did: calm myself, quiet my spirit, and trust God to act with justice, mercy and grace. I shall put my hope in the Lord.
"Lord, my heart is not proud;
my eyes are not haughty.
I don’t concern myself with matters too great
or too awesome for me to grasp.
Instead, I have calmed and quieted myself,
like a weaned child who no longer cries
for its mother’s milk.
Yes, like a weaned child is my soul within me.
O Israel, put your hope in the Lord—
now and always."
Psalm 131 v1-3
