Forgive me, good ‘Flectioneers (Is that a good word for readers of this blog? Discuss), it’s a Bassetts Liquorice Allsorts week.
As well as a sketch about Exodus 16 (God will Provide) and your usual lectionary-based liturgy resources (this week from that fab passage in Isa 40), we are also veering away from the strait path of the RCL into the murky slough of Church of England variants.
That’s mainly because I’m preaching on it next week and it’s a cracker! John 1:1-14 Wa-jolly-hoo! Links to various resources are below, then the script and video featuring a liturgical pool noodle (you’ll have to watch it to find out!) and then your lovely liturgy stuff. Enjoy, folks xx
John 1:1-14 Resources
- Reflections on Grace and Truth
- Meditation on the Word made Flesh
- The Word become Flesh – Psephizo (Ian Paul)
- ‘Light’ colouring pages
- Does Jn 1:1 mean the Word was a god? – Psephizo (Ian Paul) TL;DR No
- Puzzle Page John 1:14
- Commentary from Working Preacher (change the last number of the URL for additional entries)
- And some more (ditto the comment above)
The Reflectionary is free because I believe this stuff is important, but I’m a self-employed writer and still need to make a living.
If you find these resources useful, please consider making a regular or one-off donation. Just £2 a month buys me a commentary in a year, (but due to high Paypal fees, it’s better to do it as £24 a year). A single donation of £15 pays for a fish and chip supper for me and my girlies, or £45 covers my web hosting for these resources.
Click here to donate via Paypal. Or send Colin Firth with diamonds. (Blow the diamonds, just send Colin Firth!) But don’t worry if you can’t afford anything. You are very welcome to help yourself for free. Thank you for being part of the team.

Isaiah 40:21-31
Confession and Absolution
Do you not known? Have you not heard?
Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
Oh Lord, we have known of your righteous commands,
but we have failed to live by them.
In the silence, we confess to you. [pause]
In your mercy, hear us.
Oh Lord, we have heard of your great goodness,
but we have failed to tell of your goodness to others.
In the silence, we confess to you. [pause]
In your mercy, hear us.
Oh Lord, we have understood what it is to be yours,
but we have failed to live as children of light.
In the silence, we confess to you. [pause]
In your mercy, hear us.
Do you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God. He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the weak, but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not be faint.
Everlasting God,
forgive us all our sins,
renew our strength to serve you
and raise us up on wings like eagles,
for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen.
Blessing and Dismissal
May the Lord who sits above the circle of the earth
stretch out his hand to bless you.
May the Lord who is beyond compare
life your eyes to behold his glory.
May the Lord, the everlasting God,
lift you up on wings like eagles
and set you free to serve him,
and the blessing …
Go from this place and walk, run, with God
who renews your strength.
In the name of Christ,
Amen.
