Fountains- Look, See, Pray

It’s a bit grand for my garden. In Nymans Gardens (National Trust) it fits beautifully as the centrepiece of its section. Visually distinctive- and providing a charming “audio channel” as the fountain rains back down into the bowl. Gentle sounds ring out as the water dances minuets in the breeze.

Being close to water is good for the mind and soul, so the scientists tell us; and many of us would agree just on the basis of our own enjoyment and experience. If you can’t have a lake or river, and the sea is far away, fountains do the job.

Psalm 36:8-9

They drink their fill of the abundance of Your house;
And You give them to drink of the river of Your delights.
For with You is the fountain of life;
In Your light we see light.

No surprise that fountains appear in the Bible! This is one of the songs of worship that draws attention to water as a life-giver and a sign of God’s gracious favour; to be graced with this holy water is a potent symbol of God’s love. Living in a climate of hot summers, and with mountainous wilderness surrounding the towns, the Israelites understood the value of this precious gift.

Abundant blessings, a life filled with delights, a fountain of life illuminating everything with the Lord’s Presence.

Father God,
May we receive the same blessing and delight in being close to You;
may we be thankful, rejoicing in the Source of all grace and Love.
May Your living waters restore our souls and satisfy our thirst for You.
In You is our delight- and You delight in us. Hallelujah! Amen.
