Pentecost – Acts 2, Romans 8, John 14 plus Jubilee!

What a whopper of a weekend! UK readers will know that the weekend of Pentecost 2022 is Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebration with jollities abounding and lashings of trifle. Many Happy Returns, Ma’am.

If you are running a Jubilee event, or perhaps a Jubilee-themed Messy Church or assembly and want some ideas, check out the selection below.

On the other hand, if this is just a boring run-of-the-mill Pentecost, I have a bumper pack of resources for your weekend too. Plus the popular liturgy resources, with confession and blessing based on the passages for this week. I’m nothing if not thorough!

Liturgy for Pentecost

Acts 2, Romans 8, John 14

Confession and Absolution

O God who is Spirit,
at Pentecost you breathed your mighty Spirit onto the disciples,
and you breathe on us today.
But we confess that we have not lived as those filled with your Spirit.
O God who is Spirit, have mercy we pray.
Have mercy, we pray, O God.

When we might have spoken blessing, we have been silent.
When we might have demonstrated your kingdom, we have stayed hidden.
When we might have welcomed others into your family, we have shut them out.
O God who is Spirit, have mercy we pray.
Have mercy, we pray, O God.

May God who is Spirit have mercy upon us,
pardon, restore and empower us,
and fill us with his Spirit anew,
for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
Amen. Come, Holy Spirit.

Blessing and Dismissal

May we who are led by the Spirit of God
know ourselves as children of God.
May we cry “Abba! Father!”
and rest in the peace that only God can give.

Peace I leave with you, says Jesus.
My peace I give to you.
Do not let your hearts be troubled,
and do not be afraid.

Go, therefore, in this peace
and in the power of the Holy Spirit
to live for the Father’s glory.
Amen.
