Lent 2

Sorry that I’m a bit late posting. There has been a lot of extra writing to cram in this last week. Readers in Canada, the US, Mid and South America will see this a day later than normal, but still in good time for your Sunday services, I hope.

As usual, you can find liturgy resources (confession and absolution, blessing and dismissal) based on the lectionary readings, below. They feature the beautiful words of Psalm 27, and I’m pleased with the result.

My author site, FayRowland.co.uk, has just posted a review of Margaret Pritchard Houston’s fab book Beyond the Children’s Corner, which I thoroughly recommend to anyone who has children in their church, used to have children in their church, wants to have children in their church or is terrified of children in their church!

Here are links to other Reflectionary resources for this week (including the popular Puzzle Pages, at the end), and links to stuff from other places.

Lent 2 – Liturgy Resources

Genesis 15:1-12, 17-18, Psalm 27

Confession and Absolution

Teach me your way, O Lord,
for I confess that I have not loved you with my whole heart.
“Come,” my heart says, “seek his face!”
Your face, Lord, do I seek.

Lead me on a level path, O Lord,
for I have strayed from your ways.
“Come,” my heart says, “seek his face!”
Your face, Lord, do I seek.

Do not cast me off, do not forsake me, O God of my salvation,
for  I look to you for mercy.
“Come,” my heart says, “seek his face!”
Your face, Lord, do I seek.

May the Lord hear us as we cry aloud,
be gracious to us and answer us.
May the Lord hide not his face from us,
but credit to us his righteousness
and grant us his salvation.

Amen.

Blessing and Dismissal

May the Lord hide you in his shelter in the day of trouble;
may he conceal you under the cover of his tent or in safe places, high upon a rock.

The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?

May you dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of your life;
and see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?

Go now, in the strength and love of God;
be strong, and let your heart take courage.

Amen.
