The Big Story – Week 1

The Big Story logo colourThis year for Lent, take a walk with me through the seamless story of the Bible. Over 40 days of Lent, plus Holy Week, we journey from the time before time tracing the story of God’s people through to the glory of Easter.

Each day tells a short part of the story, just three or four lines long, and each Sunday we find that the story might have ended, but with God’s grace it continues. We see how different parts of the Bible link together with two short Bible passages to accompany each part of the story.

Each week’s readings fit on a single side of A5, perfect to slip into a Bible. The readings start on Mondays, so that they can be distributed in church the Sunday before. Click here for a PDF of Week 1 (2x A5 on A4).  PDFs will be published two weeks in advance to allow time for duplication and distribution.

Lenten Tree

You can use the readings daily, or save them up and do them all together at a weekly Bible study group or on a Sunday.

You can add the verses between the short readings if you want more Bible, or you can just use the story if you want something quicker. It’s very versatile, and it’s up to you how you use it.

For families, you can represent each part of the story with a drawing or object stuck on a label, then hang the labels on a mini-tree to build up the story of God’s people day by day.

There are instructions on how to make a Lenten Tree here
