100 not out – Look, See, Pray

I watched part of the tribute for David Attenborough’s 100th birthday- very impressive! The reason the photo is of a gorilla is NOT a insult to him- but touches on the famous footage of him with a group of wild gorillas. It was a breakthrough moment for wildlife filming, and marked Attenborough as a star presenter.

Tonight’s programme finished with a beautifully recited version of “A Wonderful World” illustrated with stunning film segments. It was a powerful, moving, moment that summarised not only the naturalist’s work, but the deep passionate commitment he has made to wildlife knowledge and education: out of that has come a deeply effective message that has changed international policy on the environment and all the myriad wonderful creatures that populate our world.

Without his work and motivational ability, we’d be in an even more crippled world.

Thank you, Sir David. I don’t know if he has any religious faith: but we share a love of Nature and the basic belief that this world is wonderful and precious. Looking after this planet in an environmental crisis will be challenging, but hugely worthwhile. All the variety and splendour of Planet Earth deserves our best efforts to preserve it.

My faith-in-action starts with what I see as God’s moment of delight at the creation of this glorious planet:

“God looked over everything he had made; it was so good, so very good!” (Genesis 1:31 The Message)
