“Springwatch” on the BBC is compelling and contagious. I’ve been enjoying the wonderful skills of the professional film crews, and marvelling at the amount of electronic kit required to record and broadcast each programme.
Why contagious? Because it inspired me to go outside despite the rain to see what Spring had brought to my garden (as opposed to sitting in a comfy chair and swigging a third coffee!). I’d love to report that the Sea Eagles came to visit Bognor today. Or that fox cubs were doing gymnastics on the lawn. I’d settle for a few pics of the field mice who pop in to scurry after scraps from the bird feeder.
Alas, no show. But even “Springwatch” can’t guarantee “live” animals on camera at the perfect moment.
My time wasn’t wasted, though. Beautiful shades of purple caught my attention- the perennial wallflower “Bowles Mauve” pushing flowers through the Cotinus “Royal Purple.” Lightly dressed with raindrops, it produced a gorgeous blend of colour and form that gave me today’s photo.
Sometimes we need to see what is right in front of us. Simple beauty- and a real blessing.
If we are always pushing for the biggest brightest spectacle, we can overlook the “small” blessings that add joy to life. Contentment can be found when we appreciate what we have as a great gift from the Lord: in a world that pushes ambition, accumulation of possessions, and greedy restlessness, for us to demonstrate that living to a different rule is a powerful witness.
“Godliness with contentment is great gain.” – 1 Timothy 6 v6
