I wish there was a soundtrack for this photo. It would combine the scrunchy whoosh of pebbles being dragged down the beach with the tinkling silvery notes of water performing acrobatics over the remnants of the beach timber defences.
Some days, after a big wave, the backwash roars rather than whooshes. It becomes a deep, gravelly, stone-banging threat saying “Come with me, back to the deeps where secret shadows play…”
In very turbulent tides, such backwash can become dangerous- forming riptides which can drag even the strongest swimmers to their death. This photo is less threatening: though a lively surge and swash, it was shallow water on a gently sloping beach.
The water’s energy was focussed into a musical “backing track” for the drama of the tides.
It carried an almost hypnotic rhythm: surging in, pulling back, rolling the shingle in ever changing patterns. Taking time to sit and listen in Nature is always rewarding, and today it is a soothing symphony that finds peace through the regular “pulse” of the sea. Isn’t it amazing that our ears and minds are “tuned in” to appreciate this natural music?
A sea-song that stirs my soul.
Another Divine gift to the human race. A world where everyday normalcy translates into a heavenly sonnet for the ears of those who will listen. God is not silent.
Such a morning prompts me to meditate on scriptures, then to pray. The world sings in a language of angels- and if we pay attention, we will hear the Spirit address our heart through the love-song of down-to-earth grace.
