How sweet? Our ornamental palm is flowering again this year. Three great sprays of tiny white flowers have erupted over the last week- a little bit of sunshine works wonders.
Bees find it apparently irresistible. How sweet the nectar must be- not much in each single flower, but en masse it is seriously attractive.
Is it too much of a stretch to liken these flower spikes to churches as they should be? A gathering of many Christians, with everyone adding to the fragrance and sweetness that can sustain a whole community of those attracted to us. Of course, “our” sweetness is really a gift we have received from Christ: “He in us” can bring hope and grace to the world.
How much better to attract with sweetness than to purge with vinegar!
The tree doesn’t threaten the bees- it is just itself, producing a nectar for for a king. Lord, help me to become an innocently attractive signpost to the Kingdom of Love!
