Χριστός ἀνέστη – Christ is Risen!

Waaaaaa Hoooooo!

I’m guessing you have your Easter sorted, but if not check out this bumper list of stuff. Your Easter Day confession, absolution, blessing and dismissal are at the bottom as usual.

And for a fab Easter tradition, see below for how to give the Paschal Greeting* in Greek, English and BSL.

In addition, I’ve been on the airwaves recently. I’ve recorded a series of eight readings from my book 40 Days with Labyrinths for United Christian Broadcasting and I’ll let you know what dates they’ll be on air shortly. Plus the latest of my ‘Thought for the Day’ slots (see vid below).

Other than that, I wish you the greatest joy and blessing of the season as I give a liturgical ‘whoop’ and do my Easter happy dance. Bring on the chocolate!

* Pascal Greeting: the Christian equivalent of “Live long and prosper – Peace and long life.”

Did you know about the second half? Apparently, that’s only for geeks.** / ***

** Yes, I knew about the second half

*** Further geekery. Did you know it’s in the Bible too? 1 Sam 25:6
“Say to him, ‘Have a long life. Peace be to you. Peace be to your family. And peace be to all that you have.”

Paschal Greeting in G(r)eek:

Χριστὸς ἀνέστη! Say: Khristos anestay  = Christ is risen!

Ἀληθῶς ἀνέστη! Say: Alaythos anestay = He is risen indeed!

Liturgy for Easter

John 20:1-18, Colossians 3:1-4

Confession and Absolution

If you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above.
Lord, we confess that we have not always acted as if we were raised with Christ,
and we have not always sought your kingdom.
Lord, have mercy
Lord, have mercy.

Set your minds on things eternal, not on earthly things.
Risen Christ, we confess that our minds are often fixed in the here and now,
and we forget that our citizenship in heaven.
Christ, have mercy
Christ, have mercy.

For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Glorious Saviour, we confess that we often cling tightly to our lives
forgetting that you have won for us eternal life.
Lord, have mercy
Lord, have mercy.

By the power of Christ’s resurrection and his victory over death and sin,
we proclaim liberty for captives and light to those in darkness,
for we have been raised with Christ.
Amen and Amen.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Blessing and Dismissal

Mary Magdalene told the disciples, “I have seen the Lord!”

May God fill us with the joy and wonder of that first Easter,
and may it overflow from our hearts and flood the world around us.
And the blessing of God almighty:
Loving Father,
Risen Son,
Empowering Spirit,
be upon us and those we love,
this day, this week, this year and for ever.
Amen.

Go in the power of Christ’s resurrection
to live as those raised from death to life.
Amen and Amen.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
