Peace & Tranquility – Look, see, Pray

Oh, the difference a day makes.  Taken on the same stretch of coast the sea presents two parts of its nature. Raging storm winds and surf… a flat calm.

Think of it as a metaphor for daily living. Circumstances can batter us or flatter us. Stuff beyond our control can ambush us at any moment.

In John 14 v27 Jesus addresses the natural state of anxiety we live in most of the time. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

In place of fear Jesus offers peace- an inner tranquility that transcends circumstance. Peace in the Bible is more than the “absence of conflict.”  Peace refers to the state of wholeness, wellness, being reconciled to God, and enjoying His favour.

This is our inheritance. The One who calmed a storm (which had terrified experienced fishermen!) speaks of a blessing that comes directly from a right relationship with God. Jesus isn’t offering paracetamol, but Paradise. More than a pill to process our pain or panic, Jesus gives a peace that surpasses all our understanding.

Take a few moments to reflect on that. Compare this promise with all that surrounds you today.  Ask Him for peace… and discover a tranquil spirit within you. Peace be with YOU.
