The Angel Gabriel from heaven came
What a shock! How would we feel,
Suddenly confronted by an angel!
How did Mary feel?
It must have taken time to realise it wasn’t a dream.
It may have been a bit like this:
“Hi Mary” said Gabriel
“You are a very favoured lady”.
“You what!” said Mary
“What on earth are you going on about?”
“Mary, you are going to be a mum”.
“Don’t be daft, I can’t have a child,
I’m not married yet. Think of the scandal,
The disgrace I will bring upon my family”.
With this retort Mary began to walk away.
“Hey Mary, don’t have a fit, I haven’t told
you the rest of it”.
“Yeh but, no but, yeh but” Mary began
and Gabriel continued,
“The son you are to have has been foretold
by the prophets of yesteryear – he will be God’s son,
Immanuel, and that’s why you are a Favoured lady”.
“Oh well” said Mary, “If it’s God’s son then
that’s OK. If it is to please him then of course I will
obey – my soul shall praise his holy name!”
“Thank heavens for that” sighed Gabriel, “now I can
go home for my tea, Mrs. Gabriel has a go at me
if I’m late. Thanks Mary”.
“Anytime, Gabriel”.
And with that he was gone, his white wings flapping in the air.
Well it may not have been quite like that but it did
Happen just as Gabriel said. Christ was born to Mary
In Bethlehem in a cattle shed
On the first Christmas Day.
Thank you Mary, you most highly favoured lady.
