Author: richardthebaptist

Retired, married to Juliet, and a Christian who loves books, writing, music, nature, gardening, and photography. I'm exploring prayer and spirituality, using my photos to reflect on God and how faith fits into real life: and I hope to stimulate and encourage others to meet with Jesus. Health really matters- and you value it most when there is a risk of losing it! I was unexpectedly diagnosed with colonic cancer, and had successful surgery late in 2019. Love the NHS, God bless them). I am still living with a life-changing condition of fibromyalgia and trying to support others with this illness and other "invisible illnesses." Life has been changed but hope burns eternal. Faith has a deep relevance in good times and tough ones, in sickness and in health. God has been good in my life and has been with me in all these varied experiences.

Does it fit? – Look, See, Pray

June 21, 2018

Few things are as wearying as uncomfortable feet. Shoe sizes
vary: and we need to choose the correct size. As any parent knows, it
is especially vital to make sure that children’s shoes are fitted very carefully
to give support, growing room, and a safe grip. … More Does it fit? – Look, See, Pray

Deep Secret Rose – Look, See, Pray

June 14, 2018

I fell in love with “Deep Secret” when I was quite young.  Woolworths used to sell plants in tall packages, and I bought this unknown red rose from my Mum. Deep rich red, almost black when the buds are tight, and with a wonderfully strong fragrance… Mum loved it, kept it for years, picked a … More Deep Secret Rose – Look, See, Pray

Pass the Machete- Look, See, Pray

June 7, 2018

As the spring came, went, came back, then grudgingly handed over to sort-of-summer all the shrubs and bushes left in the garden went berserk. So I went to work. Two old-and-now-defunct lawnmowers later- they died- some well-blunted blades, and a collection of aches and blisters later: I discovered the garden was bigger than we had thought.

Just imagine… Look, See, Pray

June 1, 2018

…we talk as friends about our day, our sore feet, the tasks that wait for us. We discuss our possible destinations, and where we might get some lunch. Oh, look at that! A kestrel hovers while mice cower. Listen- the goldfinches are singing… and the blackbird in the treetop… … More Just imagine… Look, See, Pray

Look more closely- Look, See, Pray

May 24, 2018

Here’s a lesson about really looking. We are attracted by the obvious, the showy, the spectacular. The colours of plant and butterfly are intended to attract attention. What else is there to see? … More Look more closely- Look, See, Pray

Imagining a simple prayer – Look, See, Pray

May 17, 2018

Take note of the colours, shapes, textures; what would it be like to touch or sniff? Isn’t it amazing that the thistle has prickles to protect it from unwelcome attention or accidental damage- yet also has colour and scent to attract the insects who pollinate and thus ensure future thistles. Not so ordinary, is it. … More Imagining a simple prayer – Look, See, Pray

Forever Grateful

May 4, 2018

Reeds sigh and rustle as ducks do their thing, with eight balls of fluff who scurry and swim. There is that cormorant hanging out to dry, with terns taking turns at posting themselves. … More Forever Grateful

Champagne flowers- Look, See, Pray

April 19, 2018

May blossom is a parable of gratitude. Every part of the bush is smothered in white; each one represents a kindness, a good deed, a victory over temptation. You can scarcely see the woody branches- that’s a symbol of the overflowingly generous forgiveness and grace of Jesus towards us. … More Champagne flowers- Look, See, Pray
