Simple things are often a source of great delight. For example- meeting a Goldfinch. They are lovely, and sing a delightful melody.
Can something so small really make an impact? Or does it mean my life is so awful that the sight and sound of a small songbird can give extra meaning to my day? You can form your own opinion… but I vote pro-Goldfinch.
Small insights into natural beauty can become “windows” that reveal God. We see order, precision, colour, and more every time we watch the world in action- even when we see little things.
How can we possibly know about God? In the first chapter of “Romans,” the great theological essay of the Apostle Paul, he is quite happy to point to “the things that have been made” as one of the revelation of God’s nature and purpose. These “things” testify! And when collated in the written Word of the Scriptures, we have access to an interpretation of the visual “message.”
"For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made." (Rom. 1:18–20)
God can be made known- even in noticing a goldfinch.
