Fluffy, innocent little cygnets sticking close for safety. In the process, they pick up all kinds of life-advice. Parent swans are devoted and protective- and watching the Swan Clan glide across the water is a delight. Elegance personified.
All the cygnets have to do is follow. Stay close, stay alive, absorb life-skills.
It struck me that this is a good definition of being a Christian. We were first labelled as “Christ-followers” on the Way of Jesus: and He famously began collecting a group of fishermen by inviting them to “Follow Me.” (see Mark 1:17)
Followers start out with one thing on their mind- keep in sight of the leader.
If we do that, we will pick up the information and motivation necessary. Too simplistic? Perhaps- but Jesus made it work then, and can make it work now.
Just FOLLOW.
