
It looks like a Death Ray from a fancy sci-fy movie… “Revenge of the Beastly Borage.”
A tiny flower, the first of the hairy cluster to shine forth in brilliant blue with the purple centrepiece, this borage was photographed at 1/40th sec, at f8. A tiny fraction of a second, a small aperture in the lens, and a small masterpiece is unveiled to the Universe.
As the rest of the flowers open, bees will flock to this plant avidly seeking the nectar (and in the process transferring pollen for the next generation).
Usually this flower is fairly low down to the ground- and without the intensity of the blue it might be generally ignored. Getting “up close and personal” with a 105mm macro lens reveals the detail. Life in miniature is so orderly, so cleverly designed, so amazingly efficient- and also beautiful.
Those who believe in a Creator God find wonder and worship. Those who do not believe surely find themselves asking “How can this come to be?” Perfection in the smallest scale suggests something greater than mere chance. Perhaps the best response is simple fascinated enjoyment of such beauty, extravagant beauty.
