I See… Look, See, Pray

I was photographing the Alchemilla Mollis with its necklace of raindrops. Pretty!

Now then… is it enhanced or spoilt by the two spiders? You didn’t see the spiders? Neither did I when I was taking the shot. I was so focussed on getting the right focus of the raindrops that I missed seeing the livestock.

Does it matter? Well, many people detest spiders. Imagine this was an advertising photo- at best the spiders are a distraction, at worst they could cost the photographer the sale.

These spiders aren’t even very well photographed (so I couldn’t even pass it off as a “Wildlife in Context” picture).

It’s main point of focus is the larger raindrop in the centre of the central leaf. Any item that “steals the show” needs to be removed.

This kind of singular focus is also required in our discipleship: Jesus is the perfect example.

“Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed – that exhilarating finish in and with God – he could put up with anything along the way: cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honour, right alongside God.” – Hebrews 12 v2, the Message translation.
