Make someone feel special with this simple but magical craft – perfect for a Father’s (or Mother’s) Day, end-of-term celebrations for a special teacher or for children moving schools.
You will need:
- coloured paper
- pencil
- ruler
- scissors
- gel pens
What to do:
Draw a large circle filling the paper. You can draw around a plate or do it freehand.
Mark six points around the edge, at 12 o’clock, 2 o’clock, 4 o’clock etc, then use a ruler to join alternate points to make star. Older children and adults can just draw a free-hand star if they prefer.
Cut out the star and decorate it with gel pens or other water-reistant markers. Do not use felt-tips because they will run in the water, and permanent markers will bleed through to the other side.
I’ve written You’re a STAR! in the centre section, and lots of encouraging things around the edges. You could use Bible verses such as Phil. 1:3, 1 Cor. 1:4, Phlm. 1:4, 1 Thess. 1:2.
Fold the points inwards to cover the centre and decorate the outside, including the instruction ‘Put Me in Water‘.
When your lucky recipient puts their card in water, it will slowly open and reveal the special messages inside.
What’s Going On – The Science Bit
The water relaxes the paper fibres and unfolds the folds, in the same way that making your hair wet relaxes the waves.
