Yes, I know, It’s not even Hallowe’en yet, let alone Remembrance Sunday or Advent. But these things have a habit of creeping up on us, don’t they? So this week I bring you an adorably cute mini-Christingle Bauble, and next week it will be the audacious Christingle Beanie (assuming that I’ve finished knitting the prototype by then).
There are two versions, one with sweets-on-a-stick, and one with smaller sweets, making the candle more prominent. Both versions are quick and easy to make, and take no special skill other than being able to knit. Each takes 2-3 hours to complete.
Perfect for a fun church event: get the knitters to knit, the non-knitters to sew things together, add lashings of tea and cake (and those who don’t want to knit or sew could provide entertainment and serve cake). Perfect! Invite me along 🙂
And at the end you’ll have a load of cute-as-a-button woolly Christingles to give away at your Christmas Services.
Or send the pattern out to house-bound church members – a great way to feel they are still part of things.
Add a hanging loop for a Christmas bauble that will help us remember the reason for the season – you could even wear them as earrings!
Also included below are some Christingle Prayers – very short explanation of the parts of a Christingle and a short prayers in child-friendly language. Feel free to print this out and give it away with your Christingles.
You can get the free downloadable pattern by clicking below. You are welcome to give it away and to use it in educational and religious settings, but please do not post it on your website, pass it off as your own or remove the copyright notice.
You are welcome to make as many Christingle Baubles as you like to keep or give away, but you may not sell them. (Of course, I won’t know if you do, but I’m giving you my hard work for free and I trust you to respect that.)
But most of all, dear readers, I’d LOVE to see any that you make. Do send photos, please.
And remember, next week … The Christingle Beanie!!! (#Can’tWait)

Christingle Prayers
Orange
The orange is round like the beautiful world that God made.
Dear God,
Thank you for the wonderful word you have made. Please help us to look after it. Thank you for all the people on the world, for our friends and family, and even for the people we don’t like very much. Thank you that you love every single one of us.
Amen.
Red Band
The red band runs around the world to remind us that the world is broken
Dear God,
Although you created everything perfect, we have spoiled it. Sometimes we hurt others with words or by what we do. Sometimes our thoughts are bad. We are sorry. Please forgive us. Thank you that you sent Jesus to heal the broken world and to make us clean from all wrong.
Amen.
Sweets/Fruits
There are four sweets or fruits to remind us of the four season and the four directions.
Dear God,
From North, South, East and West, through Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, your love reaches to all places and through all time. You give us every good thing we need, and you never leave us, no matter where or when we are. Thank you.
Amen.
Candle
The candle is at the top to remind us of Jesus, the Light of the World.
Dear God,
You made humans to know and to love you, and you sent Jesus so that we could know what you are like. As we celebrate his birthday, help us to meet him and to live in the light of your love and mercy every day of our lives.
Amen.
